Many of the local journalists address the coach as "Juwan" at the press conference. This may be following the lead of older reporters who saw him play as a youth - but he's a grown man now and has earned the title "coach."

It's a matter of respect earned. For POCs -getting called your first name instead of your earned "Dr." or "professor" or in this case "coach" can be a micro-aggression too. No one does this with 'older' coaches. Watch the Hamilton press conference with this in mind.

Address the man as Coach Howard in the press conference! He's not a kid anymore!

Hat tip to the Wolverines own John Borton for the proper respect in his question. WaPo and other national outlets did as well, but many local bloggers and kids did not.
