As you can all gather by now, I stay busy. Between TMBR, coaching, and family, my weekly agenda stays rather jammed.
I dipped my toes in a new pool yesterday, making my debut as a color commentator on a baseball broadcast.
The two best teams in Michigan high school baseball squared off yesterday, Orchard Lake St. Mary's (who's also ranked No. 1 in the country) & the University of Liggett (No. 2 overall in-state). I joined startup live broadcast company, The Prep, as the color commentator for the big game.
It was a double-header, it was freezing, and I had a blast, but, I certainly have a ton of room to grow. I'll be doing a few more games with The Prep this season when we're not playing/practicing.
OLSM has 14 D1 commits and Liggett has 8 D1 players (six are committed). The starting pitcher for OLSM, Brock Porter (Clemson commit), is a projected top-15 pick in the MLB Draft and was up to 98mph with his fastball on a 35-degree wind chill day in April. He's been up to 102 in fairweather. On the other side, Michigan commit Kurt Barr threw for Liggett against the best lineup in Michigan high school baseball history. That's not an overstatement.
OLSM Lineup:
1 Jake Dresselhouse CF (MSU)
2 Jack Creighton 3B (Michigan)
3 Nolan Schubart RF (Michigan)
4 Ike Irish C (Auburn)
5 Ryan McKay 2B (MSU)
6 Blake Grimmer 1B (Tennessee)
7 Jasen Oliver SS (Michigan)
8 Parker Brzutewicz DH/P (uncommitted soph who will play D1)
9 Ryan Mooney LF (Notre Dame)
10 Brock Porter P/DH (Clemson)
And they have arms on the bench committed to Kent State, Illinois State, Davenport, and the list goes on. OLSM is the epitome of a powerhouse.
As for Liggett, not too shabby!
1. Jarren Purify SS (Michigan)
2. Reggie Sharpe 2B (Michigan)
3. Matthew Greene CF (Michigan)
4. Oliver Service C (Texas)
5. Kurt Barr P (Michigan)
6. Jack Jones 1B (MSU)
7. Preston Barr 3B (Michigan)
8. Ryan Jones RF (uncommitted)
9. Joey Randazzo LF (uncommitted)
and they chucked a freshman, Blake Illitch, who will play anywhere he wants to in college. A) Illitch family has no issue with a lower scholarship %. B) He's that good.
I'll do a full breakdown on all of the Michigan commits I watched for you guys. That will come out tomorrow morning, and I'll break each guy down in detail with some future projections on their impact at Michigan, along with their chances of being drafted.
Here's a link to the game if you're interested in watching:
