Six Notre Dame football players have been arrested in two separate incidents.

Five players were arrested Friday night for possession of marijuana, with three of those players also charged for possession of a handgun without a license.

Indiana State Police, Peru District 16, released the info Saturday morning on the arrests of senior safety Max Redfield, sophomore running back Dexter Williams, sophomore linebacker Te'Von Coney, redshirt sophomore cornerback Ashton White and freshman receiver Kevin Stepherson.

All five were incarcerated in the Fulton County Jail and will face misdemeanor charges for the possession of marijuana. Redfield, Stepherson and Williams also face a charge of possession of a handgun without a license.

In a separate incident, per a report by The Observer, Notre Dame senior cornerback Devin Butler was arrested early Saturday morning on preliminary charges of battery against a police officer and resisting a police officer.

Butler was arrested by the South Bend Police Department on those two preliminary charges. He was booked at the St. Joseph County Jail. The preliminary charge is a felony, per the St. Joseph County Police Department.

In the inicdent involving five Notre Dame players, an Indiana State Police trooper made a traffic stop in Fulton County at 10:07 p.m. Friday. The trooper pulled over a 2007 Ford Focus on U.S. 31 near Fulton County Road 375 North for allegedly driving 73 mph in a 60 mph zone. The Ford also had an improper tail light.

The ISP report indicates that while the trooper was speaking with White, who was the driver of the vehicle, the trooper allegedly smelled marijuana in the car. A narcotics-detecting police dog conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle and the dog indicated the presence of illegal narcotics inside the car.

During a subsequent search of the car, the trooper allegedly found marijuana and a loaded handgun.

Redfield, 21, a five-star prospect from Mission Viejo, Calif., recently earned praised from Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly for his play so far in fall camp. The Irish have been counting on him being a leader of the secondary. In the final game of the 2015 season, Redfield was sent home from the Fiesta Bowl for a violation of team rules.

Williams, 19, of Winter Garden, Fla., has been in the running back rotation during fall camp. He had been showing promise since spring ball, including scoring a touchdown in the Blue & Gold game.

Coney, 19, of West Palm Beach, Fla., has been working in the linebacker rotation.

White, 19, of Clinton, Md., is a reserve cornerback.

Stepherson, 18, of Jacksonville, Fla, was an early enrollee at Notre Dame and has been a promising prospect at receiver.

Butler, 21, of Washington, D.C., was expected to compete for a starting job in the secondary, but he suffered a re-injury of his foot this summer, which put his playing status in jeopardy.

I only hope Kelly isn't so furious that he kills somebody...

Kelly will use the Joe Pa disciplinary Handbook, Section 4; Loaded handgun, Speeding, Drugs, No less than 6, no more than 8 hours of cleaning trash, in the stadium. Press release, "Boys will be boys"

one is already off the team, the other is suspended indefinitely until the facts are in. 4 will be punished through the normal internal process. that said I expect the other 4 will receive at the very least multiple game suspensions assuming the unlicensed gun charge is not one of them. If butler comes back with a felony assault charge he is done. and if history is anything if they get caught again they are done as what happened to Redfield I believe that Redfield owned the gun but not 100% sure until the information is officially released. on the otheerhand if it were michigan or alabama they would be back for the 2nd half of the first game

Or like Michael Floyd - that suspension from spring practice sure put the fear of God into him. ND's (and by extension Kelly's) reaction is solid, but don't act like nd is a guiding light of discipline.

Notre Dame is taking players they NEVER in the past took! THUGS! THUGS from the INNER CITY!

Me thinks Purdue is more accurate than Irish panties. And to be banned for 10 years by asking the Notre Dumb board "how are things going this weekend?" shows that the Dumbers are falling into the same position as Mississippi. Maybe its the ACC tie-in or something. Winning at all cost is hardly historically correct.

Don't be asinine on a rival board and you won't get banned. :D

I agree. So what are you doing here Ms. Panties?

Besides, it was an innocent question. Just wondered how many Notre Dumbers would be arrested the next week.

Obviously, you didn't read past my first comment to Johnny or you wouldn't be asking why I was here. I asked a question and got my answer in another thread. I'll be back to post my picks in the Upset Special by noon on Saturday, just like I've done for years. Have you got a problem with that? :D

Irish Panties. my only problem is your very lame attempt to hold the Dumbers in any regard outside of being a Mississippi-type program these days. And why don't you stay on your own board?

Lame is you trying to get me to bite on your anti- ND rhetoric.
~Laughing At You~
I have told you why I'm here. Now go in peace and maybe you'll run across a rival that's fool enough to engage you.

don't get your panties in an uproar. Did you throw bail money for the Notre Dumbers who got caught or those who haven't been busted and announced publicly. I understand there are a few more that have been covered up. Any truth?

And I don't recall why a panty-laced woman would want to post here in the first place. Join the Notre Dumb board and rant-and-rave like the others.
