of being tempted to hire guys from the Pro's.
They are in the Pro's for reasons. One big one is "they dont like to recruit"!
Two, many of them "cant teach" the game to kids. Cant develop. They rely on University level coaching these kids up for them. Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.
The pro game is a different game from college.
So, if they dont have a strong record of teaching the game and being a "dog" on the recruiting trail, I dont care how great a place they come from if they dont have those two attributes.
I think our achilles heal has been we dont coach our players up as fast as other places.
There are likely many reasons for this but "it needs to change". Jim has been pretty good at getting youngsters on the field early but for some reason they arent understanding the game as sophmores and juniors like other places.
I knew going into the season that we had too much youth to expect a championship. However, I didnt expect the injuries, covid effect, and all the transfers and early outs. I dont expect Jim expected that much either. However, with all our youth, no spring practice was a killer. Like everyone else yes, but wow, what a mess of a year.
Next fall should bring OLine experience to bloom.
Next year should bring WR's that arent rattled, including TE's and those who dont block will be gone.
However, next year brings us instability at QB again. Good news is, a rookie QB can do alot better behind an experienced line than an inexperienced line. (also even if its not a rookie starting)
Maybe a coaching change puts a fire into our RB production next year also.
Get All's vision checked. (Im serious about this, some kids dont think about it or some think "the ball always is blurry") That might help his hands, lol
Defense needs a coaching staff that is "all in" as recruiting dogs. Every position. It needs to be a competition for each coach position between those coaches.
Lastly,, PLAY CALLING! Whoever or however we are now doing it SUCKS! No rhythm, incredible predictability and not putting the kids "we have at the moment" to succeed at their positions.
Lousy at setting the table. Predictable calls seem to all be prepared for by defences. We are out gameplanned. It appears we never know our oppositions tendencies better than they do ours.
This season showed an interesting trend. First game we were gang busters. Why?? Because Minnesota in game one didnt have game film to scour.
However from that point on, MICHIGAN was a known commodity by all. We might scour our opposition for their weaknesses but the opposition seems to be better at identification of tendencies better than we are. They also attack those weak spots better than we do. I certainly dont have all the answers but we cant fix it the way its currently being done.
Ill say this with certainty, we were outcoached against both Indiana and MSU. Now we need the answers as to why. If we dont get the answers to that, it wont change for the better. (Maybe we need to focus on better analysts to feed info to the coaches)
