I got off the phone late last night with 2023 Georgia three-star offensive lineman Nathan Efobi and we talked for about ten minutes about his visit to Michigan last weekend.
The visit got changed to an unofficial which Efobi was perfectly fine with. The plan is for him to return later on either in the year in order to be the sole focus on campus. Sherrone Moore wants the attention to be strictly on Efobi the next time that he's in Ann Arbor. A date hasn't been scheduled but if I had to assume, it would be for one of the two November home games or after the season leading up to the early signing period.
Efobi still has the idea to take three more official visits to Miami, Penn State, and NC State with an excepted commitment coming in November or December. This gives the notion that a return flight back to Michigan is going to happen.
Last weekend was Efobi's first time at Michigan and he absolutely loved it. He spent a lot of quality time alongside Moore, who feels like Efobi can play anywhere on the offensive line. Efobi is comfortable at either tackle, guard, or center, and is confident that Moore will put him in the right position to be a solid contributor as early as his freshman year. Moore is high on Efobi's versatility and length.
During the game, Efobi was seated next to both Juwan Howard and 2023 offensive line commit Amir Herring. If you were at the Big House on Saturday and saw Howard, you probably noticed that he never sat down, literally. There probably wasn't a more enthusiastic fan in the stands than Howard, who would talk with Efobi a bit about Michigan and its benefits. Herring, who's been active about getting in touch with offensive line targets since committing, was quick to converse with Efobi about why he chose Michigan.
Efobi was accompanied by his mother, who's best friends with the mother of David Ojabo. The matriarch of the Ojabo family spoke with the Efobis in great length before the visit about what to expect, things to look out for, and how much she loved the people within the university for how they treated her son.
Efobi said during the interview that his mother enjoyed learning about the academic opportunities at Michigan. Moore would tell Efobi that the next time he's on campus, they would tour the Ross Business School because the senior hopes to earn a degree in business. Efobi would go on to say that his mother is comfortable with sending her son to college in Michigan, regardless if it's a plane ride away from metro Atlanta.
When asked what impressed him about Michigan and what was something that Michigan could provide that resonated with him, Efobi was quick to mention academics. Efobi understands that football isn't going to be forever and wants to be set up perfectly in a career field once the cleats are hung up. His GPA is currently at 3.60.
Miami is going to be tough to compete against though for Efobi, much like what happened with Collins Acheampong last summer. The Hurricanes are embracing NIL and Mario Cristobal is one of the premier recruiters in the sport. Penn State and NC State as well because Efobi has unofficially visited both schools in the past. I just believe that the academic pitches are going to make the difference for Michigan when Efobi and his mother return and the support the Wolverines are getting with the Ojabos is critical.
Efobi also holds Moore in high regard. Efobi enjoys Moore as a person and how easily they've been able to garner a connection. Efobi knows that he would be coached and developed right by Moore because of the success that the co-offensive coordinator has experienced at Michigan. That's part of why Herring and Evan Link committed last summer and why Moore can land Efobi too.
