I know there are many who cling to an antiquated notion about the NBA, but there's better basketball being played in the NBA than I can remember in many years. With that said, I thought I would stir up some conversation with this thread.

Let's start with who's your MVP? The top candidates (in no particular order) seem to be Harden, Curry, Westbrook, Paul, and Anthony Davis.
If I had a vote, i'd go with curry. Some of the advanced metrics like win shares favor Harden, and what Russ has done since the all star break has been nuts, but I still think you have to give some points for the guy on the best team. And make no mistake, this Warriors team is the best team on paper. I don't remember the exact number, but I think only a couple of teams with a point differential like the Warriors have ever NOT won the championship. And then when you consider how good the west is. It's taken me a while to come around on the warriors, but they are really good...not to mention fun to watch. So, I go w/ Curry. What say you?

Defensive POY...The candidates seem to be (again, in no particular order) Draymond Green, Kawhi Leonard, DeAndre Jordan, Anthony Davis, and Chris Paul. Alot of people seem to be saying Draymond Green, and he's been amazing but I would go with Kawhi Leonard. I just love watching that dude play defense. Sidebar...it's great to see the NBA is giving more defensive love to perimeter defenders. So often, this has been a big man's award and in today's "pace and space" NBA, I think it's much harder to play perimeter defense, in fact...I think it's always been harder, but even more so today.

A couple other interesting nuggets...If you like advanced metrics for bball (and I do), then you'll love this...Anthony Davis is on pace to finish with the 11th highest PER in NBA history. There's only 3 guys ahead of him...you might have heard of them...MJ, LBJ, and Wilt. Pretty darn good company. And btw...he just barely turned 22. If he stays healthy, we're going to be talking about him for years to come. If he were on a better team he'd be getting way more love in the MVP convo. As it is, he probably should be.

Kyle Korver has a chance to finish @ 50% from 3 point land this year. He's the league leader by 6 points! This would be the 2nd time he's ever finished @ 50% or greater. Only 1 other guy has done that...Steve Kerr. Korver also has the best single season mark when he hit on 53.6% in 09-10!!!

Lastly, DeAndre Jordan is going to finish the season at 70% fg percentage!! That will be 2nd best regular season mark in NBA history. (#1 is Wilt @ 72.7%!!) I know he doesn't take alot of shots, but that's still impressive.

Anyway some geeky fun for a Friday. A truly historic NBA season. I think the playoffs, especially in the west, are going to be fantastic. I'm really hoping for an Atlanta/GSW finals, because I think it would be some really entertaining bball!
