As of this morning and according to Rivals, Michigan's 2016 class stands at #5 in the nation. If Walker commits this Thursday and Rashan Gary commits then there is a good chance we break the top 3 correct? Recruiting is such a roll of the dice and the "Star" ratings is so over rated its ridiculous. There are many factors that play a role in a kid coming out of high school and becoming a good college player. Coaches simply don't know until they get them on campus and begin coaching them. So many factors play into this like homesickness, laziness in high school and finally pushed hard in college (some respond and some don't) Example for Michigan should be players like Derrick Green who never really materialize. Opinions?

I expect this and next year's UM class to be very highly rated - top 5 or better, partly due to the size of the class, as # of commits is a big factor in ranking. UM's last two classes were small and it hurt their rankings despite fairly high average star ratings (2014 class with 16 commits ranked #31, and 2015 class with only 14 commits ranked #50). These large classes will replace Hoke's best and largest two classes (2012, ranked #7 with 25 commits and 2013, ranked #5, with 27 commits).

FYI, I agree with you on stars - useful to an extent, but how good of a football player someone will be is so dependent on how hard they work - can't really measure that when evaluating 16 year olds.

They have their uses, however, it has become a huge money making racket. Top rated recruits are pinned 99% of the time by the time they are freshman. The physical body makeup means everything for a kid being recruited at a school like UM. Look at Derrick Henry, he was 6"3 240 lbs running a 4..47 as a Sophomore at Yulee High School in Florida. Absolute physical freak for a RB. However, even some of them never pan out. The thing I hate about these recruiting companies is they begin blowing up the heads of some these kids when they are young teaching them to posture in arrogance and selfishness. Look at that Corley kid from Detroit. Not one snap yet playing that level of football against equal athletes and he is acting like a turd. Shame

I agree with pretty much everything you said except for the bit on Corley. To me, his recruitment, like most highly recruited recruits, is very public and he uses social media extensively, but I've seen nothing from him but respect for the coaches and the programs recruiting him.

I see either Evans or Kunis leaving with the commitment of Walker. They are recruited as athletes but were mostly running backs in high school. There might still be some movement before the end of the cycle. Coach Harbaugh has a history of having de-commits during the later stages prior to signing day.

I could see it. I really hate (and I mean it) when people start talking stars or rankings. Ridiculous.

Now to Walker and Davis. I like this combo. I think Davis is a really nice looking prospect. He has pretty good vision and is productive. He runs consistently inside the tackles and grinds out yards. Falls forward. Hits the hole. Moves the chains.

Walker is obviously more elusive but both seem to have good vision and can make the necessary cuts. That is something that has been lacking...guys who are both physical and elusive and explosive. We will see what happens but a nice pair of running backs.

Both of these guys are better looking that anyone that they have on the roster maybe with the possible exception of Isaac when looking at their high school film. I am hopeful Higdon develops too.

Love what Harbaugh is doing. He is great. He is just says...Hey, come on in. You win the job...you get it. I don't care if you are black, brown, white or purple. I don't care if you are 5, 4, 3 , 2 or 1 star or walk on. Want to transfer here...sure if I see what I like on film. Come on down.

Nobody has a right to get a job or keep a job. You have to get better and perform. You lose the job...you need to win it back.

SC makes an excellent point that none of us should forget (I think I pounded on this subject a few times, too). Star ratings are to make money for the star makers PERIOD. Unless they can take a kid from, let's say North Carolina, and project his effectiveness against a kid from Texas or where ever. It's fun to brag "we're #3 in recruiting" but that only counts at the end of each season. Other thoughts: re Strong he's one more year and done and the recruits know that. Sumlin can't keep a QB to save his life and he's on the hot seat as well. So it seems the Texas area is ripe for a take away.
