With the contact period still in effect, where it is permissible for staff to make off-campus recruiting visits, members of the Michigan football coaching staff are on the road this week again to see some top targets.
Offensive line coach/OC Sherrone Moore stayed in the state of Michigan today and went to Portage Northern to see 2026 OL target Gregory Patrick.
Patrick has MSU ties as his father played for the Spartans' football program in his playing days, and Jonathan Smith and the MSU staff have prioritized Patrick since coming to East Lansing.
Moore and Michigan, however, will push hard in this recruitment, and after a September visit, Patrick told Maize & Blue Review he believes the Wolverines "will always be a factor in his recruiting" with the way U-M has developed offensive linemen under Moore.
Michigan also saw another important OL target on Monday, but it was tight ends coach Grant Newsome taking the visit to see class of 2025 four-star Michael Carroll at his high school in Pennsylvania.
Carroll's recruitment has really picked up over the last several months, and while it will be a challenge for Michigan to pull him away from his home state with Penn State being in the mix, Carroll is high on coach Moore and Michigan. After visiting Ann Arbor after a camp session and visiting for the BBQ at the Big House last July, Carroll said he thinks Moore is "the best to ever do it" as an OL coach.
He has been to Michigan twice since then and most recently for The Game on Nov. 25.
Stay tuned for more updates this week about Michigan coaches hitting the road to see top targets as they carry on in a "business as usual" mindset during Jim Harbaugh's pending decision regarding his future.
