secondly, a friend, ex-Canadian whom went to ASU (that is no UM ties), is the most informed CFB fan I know personally - he immediately panned the RR hire, for the right reasons. (I know most of you will claim the same, but the consensus here was nothing but 'blue' skies with RR and Barwis on board). Admittadly my CFB friend was more positive on the Hoke hire, so he proved he doesn't have 20/20 foresight. When we were courting Harbaugh, my buddy acknowledge Harbaugh was by far the best target - however, he felt strongly that if Harbaugh didn't happen, McElwain would be his suggested #2 choice. I recall then doing some homework on McElwain, and concurred that he represented a logical candidate. Before Harbaugh happened, however, Florida stepped in (and IIRC, they did it at warp speed). So, I had a favorable impression of McElwain, diminished a bit by his pregame persona.
2nd question for my heavily biased UM fans: do you feel McElwain would have been a decent choice if Harbaugh passed on us?
