Loyal Fort member and hockey aficionado Brady Thomas has pointed out to me that Cal Kiefiuk, one of the longest standing commits for next season, has had Michigan removed from the Central Illinois (his current USHL team) roster as his committed school of choice.

If that is so, Kiefiuk joins Jacob Semik as players who have, voluntarily or involuntarily, moved on from a Michigan hockey career.

With only four departures to date from the roster for next season (seniors Brendan Warren, Joe Cecconi and Nick Boka plus Quinn Hughes), the number of open slots is limited for sure. Among the current commits, a dozen or so have the individual situation that would include them for next season, but will there be openings for them?

Is Hughes the only regular roster underclassman to sign a pro contract?

Cam York, Johnny Beecher and Emil Ohrvall seem like cinches to be in that number. Nick Granowicz had a breakout season in the BCHL where numbers sometimes can be inflated. Who else will be included when the incoming class is announced in late spring or early summer? Stay tuned...
