A win for MSU basically clinches a bid and gives them an opportunity to rewrite their season.
We have seen Izzo do this before (2003 comes to mind). Sneak into the tournament with a team that massively disappointed then get on a run and everyone remembers the season as a success because of what happened for a few weeks in March.
MSU would be a 11-12 seed if it makes it. In other words, they wouldn’t be facing an almost certain elimination in round two. It’s easy to foresee MSU beating a Creighton or Clemson and then you catch one break and face a 13 instead of a four, and MSU is back in the sweet 16 and the narrative is another top 16 season for MSU.
We can eliminate any chance of this narrative so let’s do that. Let’s not take any chance at giving them life and a chance to rewrite what this season has been - one where UM was great and MSU wasn’t
