Just wondering? Whom would UM have hired if JH turned down the job?

I was looking at McElwain. I don't know and I don't want to know :).

Harbaugh was a grand slam hire when UM couldn't afford another muck up. RR was the wrong hire because of the overhaul of the system. Hoke was the right style/system hire but clearly over his head.

All I know is if UM had blown this hire it would have been fan base suicide time. UM has gone through a SIGNIFICANT downturn while the rivals have been getting plenty of glory.

Les Miles? Maybe....probably not. Looking at the other coaching hire possibilities is like projecting who was going to be the qb for UM besides Rudock and that is depressing.

Key move for this year. Rudock deserves all the credit in the world.

Bob Stoops had put his name in the hat and we likely would have taken him. He would have come as well. I think we never considered Les Miles or anyone else. It would have been Bob Stoops or a very high profile coach from the NFL or college.

I hope so. I think the lesson learned is NEVER EVER hire a person with no coordinating experience and doesn't have a high level track record as a head coach. I understand why UM thought RR would be a good hire even though it was the wrong hire. He had been successful.

Hoke was a cheerleader/DL coach with as horrible coaching record in pretty poor conferences. Bobby Williams.

I thought that Fitzgerald from Northwestern would have been a good choice. The academics at both schools are a match and he has won two Big Ten Championships there. He would have been better at U of M.

Fitzgerald is a low2/high 3 tier coach in my opinion. Belongs at Northwestern. I would consider him some slightly better version of Franklin as PSU. Because you are a tier 3 coach doesn't mean you are a bad coach it just means you aren't at a higher level.

A tier two coach would be the guys at IU or Miss St. Good solid coaches.
