An absolute bidding war has erupted for Ohio State DC Jim Knowles. I have spoken with Rivals insiders and sources at multiple programs over the last 24 hours and here is what I have gathered.
Penn State had Knowles as their #1 target reportedly out the gate. After missing on a few names, such as USC's D'Anton Lynn, they are now circling back somewhat desperately and have reportedly offered somewhere around $3.5M a year. Lots of numbers out there, tough to know what is legit, but it's clear Knowles will clear $3M and be the highest paid DC.
The door for Penn State appeared open after it became pretty well known that Oklahoma was confident they were going to get Knowles. Apparently, his wife/fiance wants to return to the state of Oklahoma. Knowles came to Ohio State after coaching at Oklahoma State.
To make this midwest perfect storm even better, Notre Dame has apparently entered the picture with their DC Al Golden going to the Bengals.
Oklahoma is still the perceived favorite by some, but Knowles is going to get PAID wherever he goes.
