Jim Harbaugh plucked a high school coach in enemy territory to become Michigan's new director of football operations.
Rick Finotti, who coached Lakewood St. Edward High School near Cleveland to two big-school state championships, was introduced today by Harbaugh at Michigan's coaching clinic featuring a crowd of Midwest high school coaches.
Finotti spent six seasons coaching Lakewood St. Edward, which is west of Cleveland, and leaves a squad that "was loaded with major college prospects from across the Cleveland area," according to Fox Sports Ohio writer Zac Jackson.
"The director of football operations isn't technically a recruiting position, but Michigan has traditionally recruited Northeast Ohio well and will need to in its quest to upgrade its talent and close the gap on the machine Meyer has built at Ohio State," Jackson wrote.
Harbaugh had previously hired Chris Partridge, who was the high school coach of Paramus Catholic in New Jersey, as recruiting operations coordinator. Partridge coached Jabrill Peppers and Juwann Bushell-Beatty in high school.
