*** Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is set to have a video chat with elite 2022 Grosse Pointe (Mich.) South cornerback Will Johnson today. This will be Johnson's first time talking to Harbaugh during the dead period, and he's very much looking forward to the call. Harbaugh has been great on the phone over the last month and a half, and this call with Johnson is big.

*** Big because Michigan really needs to develop some momentum with Johnson. Yes, it's early, but Johnson may be the best overall recruit in the state next cycle and keeping him at home is a huge priority for the Wolverines. Johnson is a long, athletic corner with great size. There have been talks of him playing safety at the next level, but I love him as a corner, and that's where Michigan is recruiting him at this time.

*** Michigan has already started the relationship building process. Both cornerbacks coach Michael Zordich and tight ends coach Sherrone Moore have been in constant contact during the dead period. Johnson told me that both coaches have made it clear that he is a priority for next cycle. They have both made solid impressions on him over the phone, and again, he's looking forward to the Harbaugh call tonight.

*** Johnson, of course, is a Michigan legacy. His father, Deon, played safety for Michigan in the early 90s. While he grew up a Michigan fan and idolizes his father, Johnson is not a lock to end up at Michigan. The Wolverines will need to put in work in this recruitment. Penn State is off to a good start here, and Johnson is really intrigued by programs down south, including LSU and Oklahoma.
