I’ll preface this by saying that our coaching has been bad and that PSU was largely a mirror image of us right now in terms of talent and injuries. So there are no excuses for the loss today.

But the thing I keep coming back to is the lack of game changing talent on this roster. I can’t think of one guy who played today on either side of the ball that would keep opposing coordinators up at night trying to scheme against. Maybe Kwity if he was 100% or Milton if he was used effectively. Other than that I can’t think of anyone. Now part of that is poor recruiting strategy and part of it is bad luck.

I don’t think we’ve done much to put our guys in positions to succeed, but the talent downgrade from last year is significant. And it is far worse than it was 3 years ago.

Even having just one guy like Nico probably opens things up. But we clearly need more than just one guy.

Sure, fix the culture. Fix the game plan and playcalling. But this roster is a far cry from the 2016 and 2018 rosters that had NFL talent all over the field. No Bush, No Winovich, No Gary, No Peppers, No DPJ, No Butt. Not even guys like McKeon or Gentry. Until we can reload the roster properly it is going to be a struggle.
