I commit from Michigan in this class. Good? Bad? Indifferent?...

Long-term not great. Having said that though we have been losing the Top players in Michigan for a while. Ronald Johnson went to USC I think, Malik to MSU, Daelin Hayes to ND, etc.

During the Hoke era:
  • 2011 - Top 2 to MSU, #4 to Penn State, #5 to Florida
  • 2012 - #1 to MSU, #2 to Central Michigan
  • 2013 - Top 2 to Michigan, #3 to ND, #4 & #6 to MSU
  • 2104 - Top 2 players went to MSU & OSU
  • 2015 - #1 & #4 to Michigan, #2 to OSU, #3 & #6 to MSU
  • 2016 - #1 to Michigan, rest of the Top 10 to either MSU, OSU, or ND
We have been losing more and more of the in-state battle in the past few years. I think we focused too much on Cass Tech and not the other school and if you look at the players that have gotten away, they are good ones (McDowell, Zettel, Burbridge, Valdez Flowers, Daelin Hayes, etc). Michigan has the luxury of being able to recruit nationally so my level of worry is not that high but in general, you should always try to keep your home grown talent.

Hopefully this is not a repeat of what happened in basketball in the late 90s when all the in-state talent started to rush to MSU and they became a powerhouse while Michigan went into the dark days of basketball.

Talent is talent, wherever it comes from. Local kids are nice, but at the end of the day I just want the best team possible.

In the late '90s our basketball coach was Brian Ellerbe, who did not quite have the same reputation as Jim Harbaugh, to put it kindly.

My favorite Ellerbe moments were when the opponent would be on a 20-2 run and he would have that idiotic resigned smile on his face. Is he coaching HS basketball now?

"McDowell, Zettel, Burbridge, Valdez Flowers, Daelin Hayes".

McDowell probably would have been blue if Harbaugh had been in place for a year. Zettel was blue except for RichRod being toast. Burbridge wanted to go to UM but his grades sucked. Valdez Flowers -- who cares? Hayes is an enigma. Doubt he amounts to much given his injury history.

too Notre Dame like? Keeping too many doors open for MSU?
Way too early to make any conclusions on this re. Harbaugh. UM is making a huge push for the Pipeline 9 (top nine Michigan players) to all come to UM next year. This year was not a particularly strong class and a LB like Hayes barely got any interest from Harbaugh.
