Michigan is in hot pursuit of Virginia center Olusegun Oluwatimi, a Rimington Trophy finalist that is currently in the transfer portal. "Olu" as he is referred to in Charlottesville, was on campus for an official visit last weekend.
With a decision that appears close, here's the latest we are hearing on Olu.
By all accounts, this is a race that's very much down to two choices: Transferring to Michigan or returning to UVa with new head coach Tony Elliot. From everything I've been hearing, there is confidence within Michigan's circles that the Wolverines are going to be the choice. As always, confidence doesn't automatically mean he is heading to Ann Arbor.
However, there are some in UVa circles that believe that the Wolverines are going to be the winner. One of the main reasons is the Wolverines' willingness to embrace the running game.
From a source close to UVa: "He’s looking for a school that’s more committed to running the ball, so he can improve his run-blocking tape. A lot of people expect him to end up at Michigan as a result."
That's not to say that Elliot certainly isn't going to embrace it but it's different selling hope than actual results and the Wolverines have plenty of results to show for it this season. Returning to UVa isn't totally out of the question, though, and Olu is very open to hearing what Elliot has to say about the direction of the offense next season.
We've heard that Olu has been telling those within UVa circles that he would like to have a decision made as early as tomorrow. With that being said, I am putting my prediction in for the Wolverines.
We will update more if we hear anything to the contrary.
