Some say this makes no sense, etc. about Mattison. Not really and remember -- Mattison coached under Urban Meyer at Florida during the championship years. Some may think this is a way for Urban, who will still be involved with OSU, sticking it further to Michigan. True... however consider:
Mattison has been around a long time and coached with and under some great coaches. The DC job at OSU is fantastic and a coveted position around the league. But this isn't a shock. DO you think its a coincidence that Don Brown interviewed with Temple, that guys who would've started on the defense transferred abruptly and before the year was over -- tweeting about things going on behind the scenes, this... now with Mattison, Al Washington being offered by OSU... its connected. Just like players know who the true ballers and talents are on the team, coaches (especially the good ones) know who can truly coach and are good at what they do. A statement made behind the scenes:
"...could name 10 current coaches who would've won big by now and been to the playoff's twice now with the talent and resources Harbaugh's has had. Coaches around the league know this."
Harbaugh is proving to not be that guy that many believed him to be and it has to do with A.) His people skills. B.) His ego C.) His unwillingness to change himself -- its well known that it can be hard to play for former players who had great success turned coach because they never truly let the players in them die and allow the coach to be born. They continually compare the current to the past or they are locked into "their way" which made them successful and thus, can't correctly connect with some coaches who are under them and an entirely different generation who play for them
Many don't like Urban but can't deny that he is a Top 5-7 Coach of all-time. He has the respect of his peers and players generally love the dude. Same, of course, with Saban. Players love the dude... and they PLAY/POUR THEIR HEARTS out for them. Not so with Harbaugh.
