Can someone explain to me what's so incredible about Hopslam?

yes, Harbaugh flipped him from Central Michigan full bodied

and very satisfying

It;s solid. I like when I can get my hands on zombie dust, though.

I dont go out of my way to get the stuff, but if I come across it well worth the few extra bucks.

its also a very limited release every year with and vanishes quickly...

my local grocery store i shop at down the street had 27 cases on display the day it was released. Two days later when i went to the store again it was gone.

Considering its somewhere around $20 bucks a six pack (i think im lowballing here) thats a pretty impressive feat.

Is it out yet at retail?

It's only available in some restaurants here in Columbus. My growler doesn't have it yet.

Re: Is it out yet at retail?

" Hopslam, brewed by Bell's Brewery of Kalamazoo, Michigan, is a hot commodity. It's a double India Pale Ale (IPA) released in limited quantity in only 18 states once a year in January.

Double IPAs are basically beers on steroids. They're hoppy and often bitter. Hopslam is different, because at the end of the brewing process, honey is added. Hopslam weighs in at 10% alcohol, far ahead of the average beer. It's considered by some craft connoisseurs to be one of the best beers in America. Even the rabid fans on BeerAdvocate.com have gone so far to rate it 100 points out of a possible 100 with more than 5,000 ratings."

Pretty sure it's already over for the year, usually it's out only the last two weeks in January ... or just barely into February.
I think that's only in Michigan. They roll them out over time here in Ohio. I think they've just been having release parties the end of January. I was told that they would be at neighborhood growler this week, but they're not in yet.

Re: Is it out yet at retail?

Most beers from Bells are great. I would rank them my 3rd favorite brewery right behind Stone and Great Lakes.

Agreed, Maybe we should change the song to We don't give a damn about the whole state of michigan, except the breweries.

Luckily, for you, most of the good stuff is sold out of state now:)...

One of my favorite things to do is to hit new ones when they pop up though.

Have you tried Kuhnhenn's DRIPA?

Re: Yeah, I work 2 miles from Kuhnhenn'and go there around once a month.....

I've only been there a few times when doing some work in Rochester. I've been impressed.

Speaking of Rochester, Rochester Mills is quite good. Good food too. The bartenders seems to get a little on the bitchy side but maybe that's cause the block O i'm usually wearing...

Do you have any others to try out when i'm back in the area?

Here's the 2015 Ohio release dates for Hopslam

Bell's Hopslam 2015 Release Information

by Mike Stuart · January 8, 2015

It's time to get really, really excited for Bell's Hopslam - the mammoth hop and honey dosed double IPA released once a year. What was once a shot across the bow at Stone's Greg Koch (who thought the Midwest couldn't brew a good IPA), it has turned into one of the most anticipated beer releases each year.

While production has increased over the years to satisfy demand, I am told the production volume is the same as last year. It started getting bottled today and will find its way to Cincinnati-area shelves on February 9, according to Premium Beverage Supply who distributes Bell's beers. Mark your calendars - the Cincinnati Bell's Hopslam release date is February 9, 2015.

Bell's takes quality extremely seriously and it will be brewery fresh when it finally arrives. I also recommend experimenting with aging a bottle for a year or more. It develops a really interesting honey-barley wine flavor.

Below are some Frequently Asked Questions provided by Bell's…

Q: Is there more this year?

A: We try to brew more every year, although it will still be limited.

Q: When/where will Hopslam be available?

A: As with all of our beers, that too will also depend on when our distributors from each area are able to pick it up at our brewery, then deliver it to its final destination. Hopslam will make its way to all states we currently distribute to including southern California (but only in Imperial and San Diego counties this year).

Here is how shipping schedules breakdown by state (please note, this is when shipping begins).

Week of Jan. 12: Michigan and Missouri

Week of Jan. 19: Virginia, Washington DC, North Carolina, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Pennsylvania and California

Week of Jan. 26: Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Ohio, New York, Puerto Rico and Arizona

Week of Feb. 2: Minnesota, North Dakota and Indiana

Here are some options:

1. Dragonmead-Warren. Probably my favorite brew pub in metro Detroit.
2. Griffin Claw-Birmingham. Excellent selection and great atmosphere.
3. Black Lotus-Clawson. Good beer and food.
4. Atwater Brewery Biergarten-Grosse Pointe. Modeled after a Germab beer garden. Excellent in the summer months.
5. Bastone Brewery-Royal Oak. Good beer, but Royal Oak is a little too trendy for my tastes.
6. Royal Oak Brewing Company-Same as above, but it has a nice outdoor patio area and good food.
6. Original Gravity-Milan. Hidden gem and near the Ohio border. Could hit it on the way home.

There are many more good places, but the ones listed above were just off the top of my head.
