Here are tonight's Blue Chips...
*** It's been a little while since I last had an update on 2021 Rivals100 Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic defensive tackle Tywone Malone. He is a guy that has been at the top of the defensive tackle board for Michigan for quite some time. However, the Wolverines lost some luster when primary recruiter Anthony Campanile left the program. Michigan has continued to recruit Malone hard, and head coach Jim Harbaugh has been involved during the dead period. But I don't believe Michigan has truly been able to regain momentum.
*** Michigan isn't out of the mix for Malone just yet, but there is a lot of work to be done. The good news is that Malone doesn't want to make a decision until around the early signing period. That give the Wolverines plenty of time to get him back on campus and reestablish itself as a true player. Right now, I would say Ohio State is out in front with Texas A&M, Florida State and Ole Miss up there as well. Rutgers is a dark horse, too. As far as Michigan's status, I would go with outside looking in.
*** Omarion Cooper flew off the board today, committing to Florida State. So what does that mean? Florida prospect Kamonte Grimes remains a top option as does California's Jamier Johnson. It seems like three-star prospect Dyson McCutcheon is rising up the board. As I reported a few days ago, he had a positive call with corners coach Michael Zordich. Rivals250 recruit Duce Chestnut could come back into play for the Wolverines. I'm very high on him and would take him over Grimes and McCutcheon. Michigan hasn't lost contact with him, but he has been on the back burner.
*** Rivals100 wide receiver Deion Colzie released his Top 10 today, and Michigan did not make the cut. The Wolverines offered shortly after his decommitment from Notre Dame, but it looks like he's likely to stay south. Four-star tight end Michael Trigg also released a Top 10 today that did not feature Michigan. The Wolverines were working on him throughout the dead period, but it looks like he's off the board as well.
