*** I've gone ahead and put in a FutureCast pick for Michigan to land three-star Huntsville (Ala.) Madison Academy linebacker Deuce Spurlock. I included him in my Who's Next? story earlier today and with Rivals250 linebacker Sebastian Cheeks trending towards North Carolina, this one makes even more sense. Spurlock made an unofficial visit to Michigan last month, and the Wolverines really like his athletic ability and upside. U-M also doesn't have much competition in this race as Appalachian State, Liberty, Mississippi State (doesn't appear to be that high on their board for now) and Pitt are the other finalists. Spurlock hopes to have a decision made by the end of summer, so this one could happen relatively soon.

*** As mentioned, Cheeks is trending to UNC. I've put in a pick for the Chicagoland product to side with the Tar Heels and don't feel very optimistic about U-M's chances. We'll see if that changes since Cheeks hasn't informed staffs. Michigan is still working hard on three-star Tenaha (Texas) High linebacker Jeremy Pattton, but I'm not as optimistic about U-M's chances as others. I've had my pick on Texas for a while, and the Longhorns are getting him in for their big recruiting event a day before he announces his decision. On top of that, Patton is coincidentally committing on the same day as good friend and Texas lean Derrick Brown. Michigan is still going all in for four-star Salt Lake City (Utah) Brighton linebacker Lander Barton, who is a take no matter what. Barton hasn't made any OVs and Michigan is working hard to get him on campus this fall. Still, he'll be a tough pull from out West.

*** Four-star Michigan cornerback commit Kody Jones will be back in Ann Arbor for the Big House BBQ at the end of the month. I caught up with Jones today, and he told me he is still in regular communication with new cornerbacks coach Steve Clinkscale and that he is still solid with his pledge. However, that doesn't mean his recruitment is completely over. Both Illinois and Tennessee hosted him for visits last month and are working to get him back this fall. Florida is the school that concerns me the most. The Gators recently offered, and Jones said he's definitely going to make an OV there in the fall. That's definitely something to watch. I'll have more directly from Jones this week.
