Here are tonight's Blue Chips...
*** I made a low-key day trip to Nashville today in large part because I wanted to spend some down time with four-star Brentwood (Tenn.) Ravenwood cornerback Myles Pollard. I met Pollard when he only had one offer and know him well, so it was cool to get some personal time with him. Myles’ father, Greg, actually helped me set up the stop, and I can tell you that they are both still very excited about Michigan and can’t wait to get out to Ann Arbor for their June 11 official visits. Both have a great relationship with new U-M co-defensive coordinator Maurice Linguist and are looking forward to meeting him in-person.
*** For now, everything has continued to be virtual. Linguist and Pollard talk on a weekly basis and sometimes, multiple times a week. Pollard has also had some positive conversations with new defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald. Before my stop at Ravenwood, Pollard actually had a call with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, who told Pollard how much he personally wanted him in the fold. Pollard is set to play some wide receiver this season, and Harbaugh teased him about getting him on the phone with the offensive staff. Overall, the call was productive, and Pollard enjoyed their conversation.
*** Pollard was looking to potentially make a decision in April before slowing things down. That, a push from Oklahoma and new defensive back targets emerging seemed to create a sense of pessimism on this board. I can tell you that after speaking to sources around Pollard yesterday and meeting with Pollard today that I still feel confident in my FutureCast pick for Michigan. No, I’m not discounting the OU threat, and yes, official visits will play a key role in his final decision, but I still have reason to believe that Michigan leads right now. Linguist and the Wolverines simply have to close this summer.
*** The Michigan Men are doing their best to recruit Pollard, and that has his attention. Remember, Pollard is a former high school teammate of Michigan freshman linebacker Junior Colson. The two are going to hang out this weekend as Colson is set to make his way back home. Pollard has also been sporting number 5, which Colson wore at Ravenwood, throughout spring practice. The leader of the 2022 class, Will Johnson, has also been on Pollard hard as of late. As you should know, Johnson joined Pollard on his self-guided tour last month, and the two have continued to build a strong friendship.
*** So when will Pollard make his decision? Right now, he has three June official visits scheduled — Auburn, Michigan and Oklahoma. Pollard wants to squeeze in two more and is considering trips to Kentucky and Washington. That’s his Top 5 at this point in the process. However, Pollard told me Cal, Oregon and Penn State are pushing for a visit as well. Regardless of which of those schools get him on campus, Pollard will be making a commitment in early July. He doesn’t want to stretch the process but does want to make visits before pulling the trigger.
*** Pollard isn’t the only Michigan target I saw during my time in Nashville today. I also swung by to see Nashville (Tenn.) Hillsboro offensive tackle Jacob Hood. This is a name you might not be too familiar with as Michigan just offered a couple of weeks ago. So where do the Wolverines stand? Despite getting in a bit late, Michigan is an emerging option for Hood. He is quickly developing a relationship with new offensive line coach Sherrone Moore and told me that U-M is in the running for his final three official visits. As of right now, the only two he has scheduled are Auburn and Georgia. Hood is definitely going to be a tough pull from the South, but he is, at the very least, intrigued by Michigan.
*** Hood does have a couple of connections to Michigan. He is a good friend of the aforementioned Colson and trained with him last year through Nashville-based organization NPA. Hood told me he is planning to catch up with Colson soon and ask him more about U-M. Michigan also has a good relationship with NPA through Linguist, who will likely get involved in this recruitment. Linguist used that relationship to land Taylor Groves earlier this cycle before he ultimately backed out of his pledge.
