Here are tonight's Blue Chips...

I caught up with Buck Fitzgerald, who runs National Playmakers Academy in Nashville. NPA offers training and mentorship to local high school players and also features a 7v7 program. 2021 Michigan linebacker signee Junior Colson was an NPA kid, and now four-star Cross Plains (Tenn.) East Robertson athlete Taylor Groves is following in his footsteps. Groves, of course, committed to Michigan last week. Fitzgerald was kind enough to hop on the phone with me and provide some insight on Taylor and Michigan's recruiting efforts in Nashville. Here are some highlights from out interview.

On his overall thoughts on Groves:

"He's as elite as it gets as far as a safety prospect. He has everything you're looking for. He's 6-foot-3, 190 pounds and runs a low 4.4. He has amazing ball skills because he's a damn good wide receiver. He's physical. He's smart. He's the type of guy and DNA to be a very high draft pick one day if he stays healthy and everything goes well. His ceiling is wide open. He can literally play anywhere in America, but he's raw because he's been a wide receiver. His upside is unlimited. He checks the boxes as an elite defensive back."

On how Groves will fit in at Michigan:

"He loves Mo (Maurice Linguist). With his NFL experience, he's a guy that can take a kid at the beginning of the process and walk him into being a high draft pick. He knows what to expect. He's looking for those guys that are long, fast and have ball skills. That's what the NFL guys are looking for. Taylor Groves fits that profile. I see him being a guy that plays early because of his speed. He matches the guys at rival Ohio State with his speed, length, ball skills and jumping ability."

On how much success Michigan can have in Nashville:

"They have a wonderful opportunity. NPA and Sound Mind Sound Body are very close and do a lot of things together. Our kids are familiar with each other and the area. It's not far for our guys. With Junior being there, he's blazing that trail. You and I have talked a lot about this. Michigan can have a great pipeline in Nashville soon."

On 2022 Rivals 250 LB Keaten Wade, who is part of NPA and listed Michigan in his top group:

"He's one of the very elite linebacker prospects and overall prospects in America. He's so dominant on all levels of the defense. He plays the pass and covers like a defensive back. He plays the run. You can put him as a standup backer and bring him off the edge. He's a phenomenal pass rusher and really bends the edge. He's 6-foot-4, 220 pounds and runs a 4.6. He can do it all. He's kind of the new age prospect that everyone is looking for at linebacker."
