Here are tonight's Blue Chips...
*** The recruitment of Rivals100 Clarkston (Mich.) High offensive lineman Rocco Spindler has been an interesting one to follow. Spindler was considered a Michigan lean early on. Then Notre Dame built a ton of momentum before the abrupt dead period. Now, I'm actually hearing that Penn State may have the overall edge. PSU head coach James Franklin has been recruiting Spindler hard during the dead period, the King brothers have been all over him and he will for sure make an OV there. I also know there is growing confidence in Spindler on the PSU side.
*** Obviously, that is cause for concern. Penn State just won a big head-to-head battle, and I'm buying into the Nittany Lions' momentum here. With that said, we still have a long way to go in this recruitment. Sprindler is adamant about taking all five OVs before deciding. Here is what he had to say about his timeline: "I don't want to rush it. I have a system, which is to take all of my official visits, see what my best option is, give them a week notice and have a big commitment day at my school. Hopefully, I can get a bunch of reporters there and my whole town will be there supporting me."
*** While this recruitment has appeared to be trending away from Michigan as of late, the Wolverines have been a constant for Spindler. And Michigan is recruiting him extremely hard during the dead period. UM head coach Jim Harbaugh video chats with him on basically a weekly basis, and he was just on FaceTime with Recruiting Director Matty Dudek over the weekend. I'm also told there is still optimism in Ann Arbor that Spindler lands at Michigan when it's all said and done. For now, I'm keeping my pick on Michigan.
*** Here is what Spindler had to say about Michigan's recruiting efforts: "They're blowing up my phone like none other. They recently lost three in-state recruits in a couple days. They've been blowing up my phone lately, trying to keep me on board. They're trying not to lose any others (in-state). They're great dudes and I have a great relationship with them."
