INDIANAPOLIS - Jameis Winston and Bryce Petty spent the weekend working out at Michigan preparing for this week's NFL combine.

The two quarterbacks gushed about the school's facilities and raved about working with coach Jim Harbaugh, and Petty said at the combine today that the whole experience was "great."

"Outstanding guy," Petty said of Harbaugh. "Just a football dude. That's the best way I can describe it. He just gave us a lot of advice about what to expect here, about how to handle everything, especially going in as a rookie into a camp and what he expects as a coach in that scenario, things like that. I thought it was a great play by (George) Whitfield."

Whitfield, the nation's preeminent private quarterback tutor, has been working with Winston and Petty in recent weeks and Petty said it was Whitfield's idea to spend a few days in Ann Arbor with Harbaugh before the combine.

Harbaugh, who played 15 seasons in the NFL, spent the last four years with the San Francisco 49ers and is known for his acumen developing quarterbacks as well.

"We were tickled to death anytime you get a chance to meet and talk to a guy who has been in it for four years and had a lot of success in it," Petty said.

Jameis Winston, on Jim Harbaugh: 'I wish I could have played for him'

Winston, widely considered the most talented quarterback in the draft, is reportedly still deciding whether to throw in passing drills at the combine Sunday.

Either he or Oregon's Marcus Mariota is expected to go No. 1 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but Petty, who's in a mix of players vying to be the third quarterback off the board, joked that things might have been different if he and Winston played for Harbaugh at Michigan.

"I'd have probably started over Jameis if we did go over there," Petty said.

Who'd ever suspect someone who's spent most if his life playing or coaching football would be considered "a football dude". Shocking.
