I have fond memories of John Kolesar from back in the '80's. But it wasn't until I went back and looked him up that I realized how good he really was.
Kolesar started most of the games during his four-year career at Michigan, gaining almost 1,500 yards and a bunch of touchdowns. No other Michigan reciever has a record of average yards per catch--23.4 yards--even close to Kolesar. Not even receivers who have been honored at vastly higher levels. The best Kolesar could do was all-Big Ten in his senior year.
Michigan has had some pretty good pass receivers since Kolesar's days. We have some highly-rated young receivers right now. Will any of them even come close to being as good as John Kolesar? They'll have to go a helluva long way to do so.
Little John brings back really fond memories.
