Good coaches have bad seasons for whatever reason.
John Beilein had a genuinely terrible season in his eighth year. Sure, injuries were a significant problem for the 2014-2015 Wolverines, but the team lost to Eastern Michigan and NJIT when it was healthy. That was an incredibly painful slog through the last two months of the season. But I don't recall hearing about a bad culture, or guys wanting to transfer when they didn't get the playing time they wanted. And it was painfully clear that team wasn't playing for much past January.
The idea that Harbaugh should get a mulligan because everyone has a bad year doesn't make sense, because what we've been reading about for three years now is kids aren't all in for Michigan, or kids with attitudes, rinse and repeat, if there is a seventh year, we will be hearing about this next year. Harbaugh has had enough time to built a culture here, much less win titles. When a coach has a broken culture, it's time for a change. Even assuming the vast majority of this team returns and the commitments stick (very optimistic given the new transfer rules), why will these same players buy in next year?
