Reads Turned Off?

Question, if we aren't going to run an actual read, then why do we scheme the play up that way? Several plays last night that looked like they should have reads attached and you can see that Cades eyes aren't even on the correct person to read and that the read on the play is clearly off. So.. we run an option play to option off a guy we don't need to block, but since we don't actually read him we just get stuffed by the unblocked man.

What is the possible strategy here? I am fine with them saying they don't want to run keeps because they don't want qb hurt, but then why run the play at all? Hell why run that offense at all?

Especially when a team draws down into the box, you've got to account for the extra man.

Does anyone in media ever ask Harbaugh why the reads seem to be turned off and if they are why run the plays at all?
