Yes, Racine is injured taking him out of the picture for the time being; he was injured last Saturday against Dartmouth and while they aren't being specific the way he acted on the ice the injury sure looked like a groin injury, not good for hockey players and especially not good for goalies. Defense continues to be a problem for the entire team and yes it is not great that your two best defenders (at least the ones who are supposed to be the two best) seem to be struggling with some basic stuff. They will probably go with Nagelvoort again next week against Minnesota assuming Racine is still out, but Catt at least showed he can come in an play (maybe they give him a shot with a start, Nagelvoort did nothing all weekend to lay claim to the starters position, although a lot of the goals he gave up, maybe all of them, could also be laid at the feet of the defense, at minimum they (the defense) did nothing to make it easier on him).
Michigan played two wretched periods of hockey this weekend, the first period Friday night and the second period Saturday night. A couple of the others weren't great. They obviously have a lot to work on. They got away with it this weekend (basically) because they were playing Wisconsin, who while improved from last year, is still a young team that has a ways to go. They won't get away with that next week and certainly not when they play PSU, a team that has made amazing strides for only being in their 3rd or 4th year as a varsity team.
After the opening weekend of Big Ten play, Michigan sits in third, one point behind both Penn State and Minnesota. Minnesota won two games over OSU, both wins coming in overtime, while PSU swept MSU; Friday night was closer, but Saturday was a butt whooping. You have to wonder how long the Anastos experiment will continue at MSU.
