After talking to a program source this week, I was able to get a clear view of Michigan’s direction with each position on defense for the 2023 recruiting class. Hoping to have a similar talk on offense in the coming days.

For the safety position, this is probably the most wide-open position on the board currently for the defensive coaching staff.

There’s one reason for that: They plan to take only one safety this cycle.

Michigan really likes where they’re at with safety on the current roster and don’t need to add significant numbers.

With that, there isn’t exactly a pecking order for the safety spot. Things are wide open and it really feels as if it’s a first come, first served basis.

One guy the Wolverines would love to have, however, is four-star Notre Dame commit Peyton Bowen.

The Wolverines are working to flip Bowen from the Irish and feel he has been receptive to what the coaching staff has had to say. Whether that flip will happen, though, is an entirely different story.

Stay tuned throughout this week as we go through the rest of the defense and look ahead to the offense in 2023.
