Could Michigan be dipping back into the transfer portal to address some depth? If the rumblings are to be believed, it could turn out that way.

The current buzz suggests that Michigan could be in line to pick up Louisville kicker James Turner from the portal. According to those in the network with Louisville ties, the current buzz of the Cardinals program suggests that Turner could be headed to Ann Arbor. I can't confirm or deny the buzz from Michigan's end but the smoke coming from Louisville is significant enough to believe it.

Here's why it makes sense.

Turner entered the portal with a 'do not contact' label attached to it, which makes it clear that he's already decided on where he will go. Turner is also from Saline, Michigan, which also makes a lot of sense from a going home standpoint. The Wolverines have a need they could address at kicker, as true freshman Adam Samaha has yet to make it on campus.

"He's a really good kicker."

That's the quick scouting report we received on Turner who was 20-22 with field goals and was 38-39 with extra points last season. The longest kick of his career was from 50 yards. Automatic from 30-39 yards, 100% during his three years. 5-5 from 40-49 in 2020, 6-10 in 2021 and 3-5 last season.

We'll see what happens but the buzz is loud enough to not ignore.
