I went out to Pontiac, Michigan, on Sunday to the UWM Sports Complex for the Rising Stars MLK Camp. It was held by Rising Stars Academy which runs weekly offseason sessions throughout the state of Michigan for local in-state talent.

At the workout was 2023 Dexter (Mich.) High Cole Cabana, who's coming off his weekend visit to Michigan where he picked up an offer by the Wolverines. It's been a long time coming for the four-star all-purpose back as it was his third visit to Ann Arbor since the summer. Cabana is the No. 8 overall prospect at his position and No. 6 in Michigan, according to Rivals.com.

Cabana and I caught up after the session to talk about his most recent trip and why it meant so much for him to receive that offer. Obviously, with Dexter being less than a 20-minute drive to Ann Arbor, those close to him are vying for him to commit to Michigan. It means a lot knowing that if he does sign, he'll be reunited with kicker Adam Samaha, as the two are really good friends and have known each other since middle team where they played on the same team together. Cabana also got to hang out with four-star West Bloomfield (Mich.) High wide receiver commit Semaj Morgan and spoke with the new Milton (Ma.) Academy four-star tight end commit Andrew Rappleyea.

The academy leaders didn't want Cabana to run 1v1 drills towards the end of the camp because of his obligations to track & field, but he did run through the combine drills alongside the other running backs and linebackers. The first thing that comes to mind when watching Cabana is how impressive he's built in his lower half. The guy has monstrous calves. His upper half is extremely cut as well. It's no wonder why he was able to terrorize opposing defenders with his agility and toughness.

During the three cone shuttle, Cabana was quick off the whistle and had a burst of energy that made him stand among the rest of the participants. His 40-yard dash time was clocked in at different speeds by the camp's organizers. One recorded a 4.29 time, another was 4.35, and the other at 4.44. Regardless, the leaders were raving about Cabana'a agility and made sure that other media like myself were there to witness his athleticism.

It would have been nice to see Cabana go up against other campers in one-on-one action but the smartest move was to prevent any injuries for track season. But, there will be many more opportunities to catch Cabana in action this offseason during 7-on-7's and summer camps.

In terms of Cabana potentially coming to Michigan, he would love the chance to learn under assistant Mike Hart, as the two have quickly developed a strong relationship. Cabana understands the reputation Hart carries with him in NFL experience and developing guys like Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum. Cabana is also very close with head coach Jim Harbaugh, saying how much he respects Harbaugh in keeping it enjoyable and fun.

Cabana doesn't have any visits set up as of Sunday but does plan to head up to East Lansing and see more of Michigan State before track starts picking up. Other schools that are standing out along with Michigan are Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.
