OT: Herniated disc?

Mods please remove if you think a good ol' herniated disc question shouldn't take up space on the board. :)

So... I've been laying in my bed for 4 days now not being able to move. I bent down to move something the other day and sure enough, my back goes out and it's been 24 hours a day of back spasms ever since. I just coughed and thought I saw Jesus! This has happened to me once before, and I was able to just rest and get through it in about 5 days but this time seems much worse. All of my pain is in my lower back. When I move just a little bit I get bad, painful back spasms about 50% of the time. I've been trying to avoid getting picked up by an ambulance and giving the neighbors a show, but I may not have a choice. I've been using cold packs and taking some Tylenol and muscle relaxers but nothing is helping. Any suggestions for over the counter stuff that I should try just to see if it helps before I take the ambulance plunge? (Heating pad instead of cold pack?) We went on a family vacation about two hours away from home and I had to stay behind because I literally can't move other than 3 times where I made the incredibly difficult trip to the toilet that is ten feet away. I already know that I'm a dumb, bullheaded Neanderthal for not going to the hospital already, but any other suggestions to at least help me get through this? Anyone go through this? Thanks!

Insider Quick note on Jaden Mangham

The Michigan State transfer is set to visit this weekend after making both Ohio State and Nebraska visits.

Was told by someone on the Nebraska side of things that the buzz is relatively low right now and that education was discussed throughout both of his visits to Nebraska and OSU.

Was also told that the buzz was very “pro-Michigan” right now but I’ve been around the block a few times and are well aware of how much things can change lol

If education is part of the deal, I think you have to feel pretty good about where things stand right now if you’re Michigan.

Not going to sit here and say it’s for sure going to get done this weekend but I think Michigan is going to head into this weekend with a lot of confidence that they’ll have a strong visit.

We’ll see what happens.

Little help if you can

My daughter's swim team (Sail Fish Wixom) is the host for State of Michigan Swim Championship for 14 and under at EMU July 19-21. We are in desperate need of some volunteers to help out at the sessions from hospitality to on the swim deck timers to a variety of other positions. I am the Chief Deck Manager for the entire weekend so I will be there from 6am to 10 pm each night.....yes lucky me....If you love youth sports and like to volunteer let me know we could use some help. There are three sessions (morning, afternoon and evening). Food and drink provided. It's alot of fun but unfortunately we have had parents not want to help out from tje team which is disappointing. I don't get it but we need 35 volunteers per session per day so we need about 10-15 slots filled per session per day as of now. It's at EMUs pool so if your interested hit me up. Go Blue.

Insider Intel: New transfer portal prediction, other update

After doing some digging and talking those close to the situation, I am comfortable placing a prediction in favor of Michigan for Albany DB transfer Aamir Hall.

Michigan worked quickly here to get this done. I expect an announcement shortly.

As discussed in another thread, Jaden Mangham is currently on campus which would be a day early.

RIP Mark Wells

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, but I don't recall seeing or hearing it in the news.

With the hockey college season over I haven't been checking US College Hockey online as frequently.

In doing so today, I read that Mark Wells, who played on the Miracle on Ice US Olympic hockey team which beat the Soviet Union in 1980, passed away last month.

Many may remember him as he played in the CCHA for Bowling Green and was a St Clair Shores Michigan native.

I've attached a link to the USCHO article.

Mark Wells

RIP Mark and thank you for helping give us a hockey memory we will never forget.

  • It was rare for a casual fan to watch a game and think, "That J.J. McCarthy is the straw that stirs this drink." For one, that's a pretty weird thing to think in general. But more specifically, McCarthy's magic almost never showed up in obvious ways. For example, McCarthy had just eight career games against Power 5 opponents where he threw multiple TDs and no interceptions. Six of them came against Michigan State, Indiana, Nebraska (twice), Rutgers and Maryland. Not exactly a murderer's row. But the other two? Ohio State and Alabama. In fact, McCarthy made eight career starts against top-10 teams. He posted a Total QBR better than 90 in half of them.

What if Cade won the job in ‘22?

I think Cade would’ve won all the games except at Ohio State in ‘22 and all the games last year except the Rose Bowl. JJ’s 4th quarter drive against the Tide was a combo of clutch throws and an excellent qb run.

The last three seasons of UM football bodes well for the qb this year. Decent qb play can get this team 9-3 or 10-2. Good play from that position puts Michigan in play for everything.

Michigan Related: Post Your Rank of Favorite Sports with Your Favorite Teams Ranked in Each Sport Category…

I was talking to Pops last night about how quickly May has rebuilt the Wolverines team into what appears to be a very good team that will be competing immediately for the B1G 18 championship this year. I certainly expected a team that would have at least a .500 record with a ceiling of 17 to 20 wins at best. Basketball is a sport I don’t pay attention to until, in the case of Michigan Basketball, conference play begins. For the NBA, I don’t pay any attention until after the All-Star Game. Actually, I’m a bigger fan of USA Basketball in International Basketball Tournaments and in Olympic games over both. I watch tons of live sports of all kinds, and the conversation got me thinking about how I would rank them and the teams in the games that are my favorites ranked as well. Without further adieu, my rankings are as follows:

1). Football - Michigan, Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, UFL Michigan Panthers
2). Hockey - Detroit Red Wings, Michigan, All USA Hockey teams, Philadelphia Flyers
3). Baseball - Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies as 1a and 1b, Michigan, USA Baseball
4). Futbol - USMNT, MLS Philadelphia Union, English Premiere League club Liverpool, Polish National Team
5) Basketball - Detroit Pistons, Michigan, Philadelphia 76ers, USA Basketball, WNBA (No favorite)
6). Boxing - Pro boxing, USA team boxing
7). MMA - as a disciple of Kenpō, I can’t help but think my 24 yr old self would drop a good amount of those guys before Dana White banned me. Kenpō is not a competition friendly martial art, it’s a killing one. It is respectfully called “The Art of Killing” in Japan. At 24, in my prime, maintaining my football OL weight and muscle mass at 6-2, 250ish lbs and very proficient in Kenpō, knowing the human body’s 32 spots to strike that can result in instant death, proficient in disabling by serious injury to an adversary with a single strike or kick…yeah, I could take on many professional MMA fighters and win in 2 minutes or less. I have no interest in fighting 5 minute rounds. I used to be on a kick boxing team, and even fighting in 2 minute rounds is exhaustingly tough to do. That’s why I chose Kenpō, the martial art’s motto is “Be decisive, Be quick, Be first”. Usually my fights lasted less than a minute unless I was fighting against multiple opponents.
8). Motorsports - Drag racing, road course racing, rally racing, endurance racing, NASCAR road course racing
9). Winter Olympics
10). Lacrosse - Michigan, USA Lacrosse
11). Australian Rules Football - (No Favorite)
12). Rugby - USA Rugby
13). Tennis - I liked playing more than watching it live in attendance or on tv
14). Volleyball - Michigan, USA national teams, Women’s beach volleyball for the obvious reason.
15). Golf - since I lost the ability to play a round a 3-4 times a month, combined with the defection of top players to LIV Golf for ludicrous money, my interest has waned considerably.

There you have it. Now let’s see your top 5, 10, or top 15 ranked favorite sports and teams! Go!
