They have earned it on the field and the breaks have gone their way the entire season. Indicative signs of a team on their way to a title. I have never disliked MSU and I used to pull for them even though I like UM better. BUT-I can't stand Mark Dantonio and it has nothing to do with his success at MSU. He is a disciple of the cheater Jim Tressel and he has the personality of a rock. Always frowning, bitching about something and using EXHAUSTING the phrase. "We get no respect here." He is already using it against Alabama. He is also cocky and hardly ever gives respect to his opponents whether it be OSU, MSU, or Alabama. He has had some great coaches around him and has recruited well at MSU but he is not the second coming of Bear Bryant. Say what you want about Jim Harbaugh but he has praised both Dantonio and Myer and Michigan's opponents this year.

An interesting take on a South Carolina grad who also played DB for the Gamecocks.

,,,,,,,,, cheers

MD has praised Meyer and Harbaugh countless times

he is humble and hard working... complains less than Harbaugh

Harbaugh is a good respectful man.. so is Dantonio

I am not a big South Carolina fan. I tolerate both them and Clemson. South Carolina's AD ray Tanner should be fired for hiring Will Muschamp as HC. Are you kidding me. Spurrier resigns in September and you can only find Will Muschamp who LOST at Florida!!! That hire is very unpopular here and reeks of the good ole system which is horribly systemic here throughout all levels if athletics. Head high school coaches here continually are recycled form one program to the other no matter what they have done or their win lose record. 1920's mentality. Tanner could have approached Dantonio and made an offer but geez- Will Muschamp who might punch someone in the face while he is here. Total loose cannon[/QUOTE]

Dantonio would have never gone to South Carolina (or anywhere else for that matter) - he is Midwestern through and through despite having spent his 4 college years there. He's from Ohio and his college stints have all been in the Midwest, including 14 seasons at MSU. He'll retire on his own terms from MSU, and he's certainly not going to take over another rebuilding job.

There was never a chance that Dantonio would remotely consider an offer from SC, in this universe, in this lifetime. SC is the backwater of college athletics. It's the crazy uncle hidden in the attic of the SEC. That athletic program, men's FB and BB, are unlikely to compete for league championships, let alone any sort of national one, for years...if ever.

I 100% agree with your post but don;t you agree that Tanner might have inquired to the former Gamecock before hiring Muschamp? Geez.
I don't follow SEC athletics very closely but since Muschamp was overmatched at Florida and got a coor. job with Bielema at Ark (I think that's right) it does suggest that he's the "best" Tanner and SC could do. I don't think any up and coming coach would want that job. Can't recruit to 'em anymore. Climsin and Dabbo own the state. Them chickins' can no longer rely on IPTAY ("I pay ten a year"...look it up) and history to compete anymore. Them "chickins" is dead.

But, honestly Spurrier wasn't that good either. He kept them from slipping into the abyss, but even when they were good, they were mediocre.

.
They were mediocre under Spurrier but they did beat Michigan thanks to Mattison calling a zone blitz cover 3 against 4 verticals on 3rd down which left Bruce Ellington wide open for the winning TD

I believe MSU has the chops to rep the BIG. The big question mark is Cook and can he throw the ball. Both teams are pretty even in almost all phases of the game. The big difference could be at QB with a healthy Cook. I cannot wait for the kickoff.
