@WOLVERNOLE. Well, the 14-year-old Panasonic Plasma gave up the ghost this weekend. Actually, it still works...if you can get it to start up. I'm sure it has a capacitor problem and it will be something to work on in my spare time, but I need a reliable TV.
I took your recommendation and purchased a Sony 65 XR A80J. So far I love it. Thanks for your insights.
Here is something that I thought was pretty helpful. Costco has the exact same tv with a much better warranty situation than Best Buy.
Costco extends the manufacturer's guarantee by one year and on top of that, it comes with a three-year extended warranty for the same price as Best Best buy. That's FIVE years of warranty. I had to sign up for a $60 Costco membership but that was a no-brainer for me. Costco lists the TV as A80CJ instead of A80J, but Sony says it's exactly the same TV.
I set it up on a tabletop, and the instructions for putting the stand feet on are pretty lame. Not to worry, YouTube helped me out.
