Michigan 230.

We were 70 yards worse than MSUs best defensive performance this year. Even if you consider our great field position limiting the opportunity to have long drives, we didn't take advantage of that field position by not getting first downs. This team wins yesterday by 2-3 TDs if the OL was playing even slightly above average. They are not. Not on Rudock. Not on O'Neill. This team has an OL issue. A big one.

Agreed

Yeah, our offensive yardage was modest. But we were +226 in special teams yardage. That's huge - in most football games the difference is under 100.

Also, unlike all of those teams, we never trailed MSU. We were never in desperation mode, needing to score to stay in the game.

Yeah, we need to get better, but a straight-up stat comparison doesn't tell you everything. It's not all on the OL either. MSU's safeties didn't have much respect for our passing game and crowded the line frequently. Until Rudock consistently makes teams pay with his arm, that will continue.

U of M had eleven possessions and seven three and outs. The plan to control the clock was not executed and gave MSU too many offensive chances to implement their passing game. Ball possession was the plan and it did not work in the end.

What hurt the Wolverines the most was the drive extending penalties that were called...real or imagined. The other thing that irked me was the pedestrian pace of the game because of all standing around. Every time we had a chance to build a little rhythm or momentum, the play was stopped

Not necessarily into stats either, but all you need to know about the strength of our OL is that when we need short yardage we VERRRRRY seldom get it.
