WHAT CHANGED?
There has been lots of yelling and hand wringing and on this site about Wilton Speights season. I have not seen a lot of critical thinking about the question WHAT CHANGED?
Wilton's stats and how he looks on the field is obviously worse than last year. Its not random chance. It was not simply good luck last year and bad luck this year. There IS an explanation
What is the reason for his decline?
In 2016 Wilton completed 61.6% of his passes (good)
In 2017 Wilton completed 54.5% of his passes (poor) against easy competition so far
In 2016 Wilton had 16 TD and 7 Int's ratio of 2.28 to 1 (fair)
In 2017 Wilton has 3 TD's and 2 int's ratio of 1.5 to 1 (very poor) against easy competition so far
In 2017 Wilton Speight is averaging 21 fewer passing yards per game
In 2016 Michigan's 3rd down conversion percentage is ranked ~51st in the country (43%)
In 2017 Michigan's 3rd down conversion percentage is ranked 102nd in the country (34%)

- The coaches are making him worse?
- Wilton is getting lazy and sloppy because he does not care?
- Wilton is hurt and not telling anyone?
- Wilton is struggling with emotional issues that are affecting his game?
- Wilton is feeling pressure from the QB's behind him and he is crumbling?
- The players around him are worse?
- Could it be "something else"
