I would love to see an OC that can help improve the play calling operating system.
Set the actual plays aside for a second. Think back to the Amazon series and remember how disjointed Pep and Drevno seemed. “Want to run here? No? Pass?” It was like they were just kind of winging it with no sense of strategy or purpose.
Also, how many timeouts did we have to burn this year because the plays were late getting in? Every time that happened, I couldn’t help but to assume that they were fumbling around up in the press box trying to pick a random call out of the Cleveland Browns playbook.
We saw Harbaugh be flexible and call a lot of plays this year that didn’t exist in the Bo era. Adding new plays to the playbook isn’t my biggest concern. Getting someone in there that can call plays with a PURPOSE is. Attack weaknesses and tendencies with a strategic cohesiveness.
Ya know.. like how Ryan Day dismantled and embarrassed Don Brown. But that side of the ball is a topic for another day.
