By my count, that's six returning starters.
Plus, Deveon Smith was part of a committee, not a Mike Hart like starter.
Plus, Mone was more or less a starter when healthy, while Gary and Winovich played close to starter snaps through the first nine games or so.
Plus Clark may be back.

We lose a ton, especially on defense but many other players I didn't even mention were on the field a LOT this year

The defense of line won't have the experienced depth, but I think the starters will be in the same league as this year's. If we get our two big targets this year, we may be almost on par. The offensive line will be very interesting, definitely younger, but jeez, we have to see some improvement from the up and down play of the last two years.

The defensive back, especially CB situation is very scary and the WR situation will be inexperienced, though if the recruiting goes as expected, very talented.

Yes, we are losing many Seniors, however, this was Hoke's group and Harbaugh coached and motivated them to what their level of play should have been based upon their recruiting rankings when they came in. For two years, they were poorly developed (Except the DL-Mattison) among other things. Harbaugh's recruiting is going to pay off big time. A bunch of young talent played this year and more importantly are learning how to win the big games to put them over the hump. The DB positions will be fine because of the coaching and talent that has been recruited there. The OL position will be given a priority and the talent they have there is top notch as well. People keep saying that next year is a. 8-4/9-3 season. I don't see it that way. Michigan will be right in the mix once again going into the OSU game and I think we beat them next year in Ann Arbor.

Hurst was not a starter. We have 4 returning starters on offense and one on defense. Now that doesn't mean the cupboard is bare or that there isn't a handful of guys that were more like co-starters. The fact is we lose a ton no way around it. That's why this osu loss is still killing me. Plus it was a very long journey back home from Columbus for me. Here's to getting DPJ and Harris in lieu.

Starter means first play!! At this point it is about depth and readiness of the "next man" up.

Correct. And the next men up have been recruited and mindset put in by Jim Harbaugh!!!!!! Big Difference. People fail to forget that unlike Harbaugh coming in, Urban Meyer walked into a roster of 5 start athletes who were groomed by Tressell. Under Fickell's leadership compounded with injuries, they were not very good.

PSU is one of the main proponents of that comment. In their minds they are always a young team and learning while everyone else has many players leaving.

It was a little goofy that it worked this way 3-straight years (a function of PSU scholarship classes over recent years) --- but PSU has had a younger-than-average (vs. the average FBS team) team in each of 2014, 2015, and 2016. Are you disputing those statistics? I mean, the numbers are the numbers, right?

As for Michigan losing 19 starters --- those numbers may be inflated a bit, if one counts kickers or returners as starters and such. But no matter how exactly one counts starters, I think it's true that Michigan IS losing a higher-than-average (again, vs. the average FBS team) number of starters in 2017. Are you disputing that statistic also?

This isn't an instance of PSU fans reading some Blue-and-White version of Pravda here. The numbers simply are what they are.

Mich was not supposed to beat Ohio this year. This team got really good faster than expected. this is a reality.

I've always thought 2017 was the year to really turn the corner, and still think that is the case.

No way anyone thought JD and Stribling would be as solid as they were. I am not concerned at all about the DLine, and frankly, the weakest link was LB which will be better.

Need some pieces in the secondary for sure. If they can get an extra year for Clark that would be huge. The good news is, i think based on the schedule they will have time early on to develop them since I do not see a bunch of pass happy teams the first month+

I think Speight will be night and day better after this season, and another offseason. The O line is puzzling for sure, but i think RB will be a strength...the O line needs to help with that.

There are TEs out the rear on this team, and i think the WR corps is more than serviceable. I love Darboh and Chesson, but to be honest I was disappointed with the vertical game this year. Not on them totally, and Speight needs to be better.

If I am Peppers I am not coming back, but I do not think it is a cinch he gone. I'd say it's upwards of 95% though.

Just repeating what always seems to appear on the BWI board-maybe to hype the next season ?

I guess fans and alumni look at the unofficial Depth chart and see the starters and what grade they are in. My only explanation. I hope those players are in agreement with Coach Jim to come back. GBGB "74
