Saw a column today (Link) that said Michigan needs to admit that MSU is its biggest rival.
He makes a couple good points, like how you get more joy from beating OSU, but feel more misery from losing to MSU. But I still feel like Ohio State is the No. 1 rival. I don't like MSU, but I don't hate them with the same passion that I do OSU. If MSU does something nice, I can feel a small shred of happiness or at least won't be that upset about it since I'm surrounded by people who go there/have family that goes there etc. But OSU? I want them to fail at everything they do. However, there's more trash talk involved with the MSU rivalry, because of that closeness with friends/family/etc. I always feel that Michigan should beat MSU, no matter the situation, (I know they haven't done that, but that doesn't change the feeling) whereas I expect OSU to still win some of the time which is what makes winning so sweet.
I'd rank Michigan's rivalries like this:
1. OSU
2. MSU
3. Notre Dame
(I could see the case for Penn State turning into No. 4, but I think that'll take a few more years of Franklin vs Harbaugh. Don't give me any Minnesota is a rival crap.)
