This guy basically says that the entire Big 10 is crap (on ESPN, huge shock). He touts the SEC and ACC. If I had to guess, I would say that the guy was born...uhh, down south, maybe? I'm guessing he missed the playoffs 2 years ago.

FWIW, he's a Notre Dame alum and currently works at the University. So of course he hates the B1G!

If you're going to use a college football advanced analytics metric, I prefer S&P+ over FEI (Brian's metric). But FEI isn't complete junk either.

My favorite college FB expert is that clown Sagarin. In '97 he had Penn St ahead of UM AFTER UM throttled PSU 34-8 in unhappy valley. Makes sense.

No offense, but this is simply false and not true. Michigan was #8 and Penn State was #10 in Sagarin's ratings before that game. After that game, U-M moved to #7 and Penn State moved to #19.

The final Sagarin ratings had the Top 4 (in order) as Nebraska, Florida State, Florida and Michigan.

There were 2 primary reasons the computers did not love either Michigan --- or the B1G as a whole --- in 1997. (1) Notre Dame (strongest out-of-conference opponent) dramatically underachieved that year. (2) The B1G as a whole had a terrible performance in both out-of-conference games and the Bowls. The B1G went 2-5 in Bowl Games, with Purdue being the only team to win. OSU, PSU and Wisconsin ALL had decisive New Year's day losses, while Iowa and MSU were blown out vs. relatively run-of-the-mill Pac-10 teams.
