I think it's tremendous news if Gentry is making such great progress. This increased level of competition only helps produce the best possible QB as a starter. Another example of a complete turnaround in philosophy from Clappy's "I'm your friend" way of doing things.Assuming you mean O'Korn...I think O'Korn is good but apparently rumors are that Gentry has been progressing really well - way better then folks anticipated. Either way, I think you can safely assume that whomever it is has had a full year within the Harbaugh system which is great.
He's not ready. He's going to need a year to develop, and has said in a few interviews that Harbaugh told him he's going to redshirt.Peters will get a chance to win the job, in my opinion. I mean, why not?
He probably will redshirt, but I can't imagine auto-redshirting a guy who is physically ready to play in college.
My man, that was yesterday ... and yesterday is gone.OMG St Joe!!! Come on dude!!! Sugar Shane stuff again on here until the opener against Hawaii? Do you remember what Harbaugh said when asked about the competition between Morris and Rudock last year? Harbaugh said it was not even close!!!! and that was the raw (benched at Iowa) Rudock. Have you read anything about O'Korn? Unless he blows out his ACL or breaks a bone, he is going to be the starter. Even the media right now is stating this. He led the practice squad last year and the coaches loved him. Morris is a competitor but there is no way in Hades that he will lead UM on the field next year. O'Korn will start-Speight the backup as he EARNED it by beating Minnesota and Morris/Malzone the 3rd string guys since Gentry is now a TE. Peters will red shirt and the real battle will be two years from now between Peters and McCaffrey.
No way would I make that trade! I feel pretty confident the QB position will be an upgrade for the coming season, likely much more of a weapon.I'll put my money on O'Korn. Upperclassmen and has some prior experience but I can't tell you how that translates in Big Ten competition. I think Morris will be better but don't see him better O'Korn out but deserves the chance as does Speight. Doesn't surprise me that they moved Gentry and haven't gone out to get another qb which is the key variable that they feel comfortable with someone(s).
I do think people are going to pine after a game during the season for Rudock who was nothing short than a blessing for UM. I think the key for this coming season is to get UM to be even more effective running the ball (add some big play ability) until UM proves it has an effective qb.
An effective college qb is not an easy to obtain. How about this question right now. If I gave you the opportunity right now to trade Butt for Rudock...would you do it?
I would.

I think O'Korn, Gentry, and Speight compete for the starting spot. Barring injury, I don't see any reason why O'Korn won't start the opener, however some of our other QB's will likely push him throughout the year.
Peters is almost assuredly going to redshirt.
Rudock was quite the qb last 4-6 games. I would take that in a heartbeat vs. an unknown. Don't be so sure O'korn is an overall upgrade. No way would I make that trade! I feel pretty confident the QB position will be an upgrade for the coming season, likely much more of a weapon.
We'll see!
I wouldn't throw in the towel on Morris yet. Remember, Harbaugh said he was redshirting last year prior to the Minnesota game which was fairly late in the season. He has an NFL arm -- let's see if Harbaugh can coax the same out of his decision making.
