The reason teams like Michigan under Beilein had so much success (and I believe under Howard it will continue) is because we don’t get caught in bully ball all season. It may cost us a game or two in the regular season but the hack and smack of the MSU’s/Rutgers/etc that are consistently allowed for most teams to play benefits no one when the tourney hits.
Players are shocked at foul calls, aren’t used to being able to move without being grabbed and held so don’t play the style needed to win a game when an underdog shoots well. The Izzo / Bo Ryan style has hurt the league more often than not in the tourney no matter how talented the teams are.
