So many gave them no chance for a deep run going in. A few did point to a weak bracket with 'Nova a #1 seed. But it was more than just their bracket. The field is not that great overall, and MSU was clearly peaking at season's end. They should have beaten Wiscy in the BTT. That in and of itself said a lot. Izzo's team plays with a lot of confidence and defends well, the latter being very key in this particular field. MSU is better than their seed at season's end. MSU has good three point shooting, which gave them an edge over many of their opponents, including Louisville. If they get Duke next, it will be interesting because Duke can score but is not particularly great on defense. I'm mildly surprised that MSU got this far. I thought that UVA would take them out. But I'm not surprised that they beat the teams they beat.
In the long run, just like football, we can't look for MSU to decline. We have to become good enough to beat them at their best.
