At OSU, it's simple - you play for championships and you get to go to the NFL in 3 years - seems like almost everyone there bolts after 3 years. A lot of 5-star kids would love that and couple that with the fact that you don't really need to study that much there.

At Alabama, you play with the best and you win a NC 2 out of every 3 years. I'm sure they don't have to study too much and it would not shock me if players got all sort of monetary benefits. While OSU is not known for it's education, I do believe Urban runs a clean program.

At FSU, warmer weather and you can kinda get away with whatever you want - crime, skipping classes, harassing people, etc. Sad but true - considering Winston kept playing until the end!

At Michigan, I would imagine JH is still figuring it out but the luster for us is probably education and a network for NFL experienced coaches that can prep you for the reality of what life in the NFL may or not not be like.

Based on this, the odds of Michigan ever competing against the likes of OSU/Bama/FSU are slim to none. Kids that are single minded and think they are invincible and it's the NFL or bust, will likely never consider Michigan. Pretty amazing considering that how great a class JH has been able to recruit.

My 2 cents :)

Problem with bama is, if you DONT go to the NFL, you're f****d! Or you could go to the local Kia dealership and sell their plastic junk! Sounds like a win win

I agree, that's my point. I think all the highly touted think they are locks to be in the NFL and then they don't end up anywhere and have no quality education to show for. Agree, biggest advantage Michigan has is it's education.

Here is a perfect example of the misconception among some fans.

How many scholarships in two programs...about 180 or so? How many players at a certain position?
.
So this logic that only 2 or 3 teams can compete in America is a ridiculous assumption. Maybe there isn't enough talent for 10 teams but there is enough high level talent for 5-7 teams if you scout properly.

You think Oklahoma doesn't have enough talent or Texas? Georgia or PSU. He who has the most 5 stars is not guaranteed to win. It's about getting the right high level talent and being well coached. UM has more than enough traditional cache to compete.

I can make the following case to prove my point. Why did UM lose this year? Because Green, Isaac and Kalis were all overrated and didn't live up to their ratings in the run game. Green should have been here. In fact, was Peppers as dominant against the best? Factor in injuries.

Tell me about Barkley at PSU. Is he good enough? Maybe UM won't be able to compete with Alabama as well on an annual basis but there will be plenty of years UM will have enough talent on the field to win and on occasion the best talent on the field.

Many of these games come down to a few plays, you make em you win, you don't you lose....no matter how many stars on the team. NC State kicker boots a semi chipshot & we're not talking about Clemson owning the Natty Trophy. We grind out 1 more first down vs. Iowa & don't self destruct vs. O$U we're in the final 4 taking a shot at the Natty. But we didn't make the play. End of story.

Yes, because UM can never, ever hope to achieve excellence on the field like OSU or Alabama. It's impossible don't you know? Dammit, I wasted a post just below this praising your acumen, then I read this drivel. Who cut you off, you were running the race so well until you posted this?

Ha, not saying they can't achieve excellence on the field like OSU & Alabama. Read the original comment - I don't think we can get to a point where we get 7-8 5-star recruits and 20 Top 100 players dying to play for us. More about recruiting and less around result on the field. I have no doubt in my mind JH will get there because I think he's that good a coach. I also think most coaches don't know how to manage the egos that comes with a bunch of 5-star kids including Urban who's program just fell apart at Florida. Saban is good at that.

Don't hate man :)
