My nomination is Monica Seles getting stabbed on a tennis court.

When she was stabbed in a tennis match in 1993 at the age of 19, she had won 8 Grand Slam titles & was ranked #1. She had already overtaken Steffi Graf as the best female tennis player in the world. Serena won her 2nd Grand Slam at age 20.

Seles was able to win 1 more Grand Slam 3 years after the stabbing. So, she has 9 Grand Slam titles and ranks 6th in the Open Era.

She was stabbed in Germany, Steffi Graf's home country. Graf went on to win 22 Grand Slams. 10 of those Grand Slams were won after Seles was stabbed. Graf would've won way less & Seles could've won 10-15 more Grand Slams.

How crazy is it that the #1 tennis player in the world was stabbed on a tennis court?
