First off, this was my first time seeing him in person and man is he tall. Sometimes the height and weight info on these players can be a little off, but not in this case. As soon as I walked down close to the field and saw the team warming up I instantly noticed Milton because of his size, and turned to my fiancée and said “see the tall kid that’s Milton”. I’m 6’3” and the team walked by where I was standing to head to the locker room after warmups, and I could tell he has at least a couple of inches on me. He looks all of 6’6”.
To the game now, and I preface this by saying I’m no expert, but I liked what I saw tonight. He seems to have command of his team/offense, and again his physical stature is impressive. Overall seemed to be under control, and looked to have pretty good footwork. Definitely has zip on his throws, and overall accuracy tonight was good. The competition wasn’t great tonight, but he looked sharp.
I didn’t get his exact stats, but here’s a quick summary of some of his pass attempts through the first half:
First attempt nobody was open and he scrambled. Not a burner like Shoelace, but plenty of athleticism/speed for the position and his size.
Second attempt he threw a nice out route to what looked to be his main receiver (at least tonight he was), but the receiver dropped the ball. Milton threw it well, and hit his receiver right in the stomach, but the receiver seemed to let the ball hit him in the gut and he never got his hands around the ball to secure it.
He had a nice deep ball (about 40 yarder) that would’ve been completed, but the defender held the receiver. The DB was called for PI on the play. Next pass attempt Milton rolled out to his right, and threw right over a couple defenders and completed it to his main receiver for a 20 yard TD. I had a good view of this play (standing field level right by the action), I thought the defender was going to get his hands on the ball, but he threw it perfectly just over the defenders hands and put it right on the receivers hands in stride to be able to turn it up and score.
He did seem to force one deep ball as he scrambled to his right. Underthrew it a bit and it fell incomplete. Could’ve been intercepted if a defender played the ball a little better.
He had some other nice out pattern throws he completed, and also had a good 20 yd QB scramble on a 4th and 1 to score. Got his guys to the line quick to catch the D off guard a bit in the process.
Bad news struck though with about 30 seconds left in the half. He was sacked, and I couldn’t see how it happened, but he did leave with an injury. Looked like an ankle injury. He went to the locker room, and didn’t play in second half so I left at the start of the second half. Team was up 27-0 at the half.
Finally, during halftime I was near the locker room area, and noticed a family there with a Milton shirt on so I’m assuming it was his mother and other family members. She had the Milton shirt on with yellow letters, and the cool thing was she was also wearing a Michigan hat. Thought that was good to see that the mother was repping Michigan. Seems like he is all blue.
Overall I came away impressed, and I really think this kid can be a good one. Seems to have a nice swagger about him, and definitely takes control of his team.
(Hope this wasn’t too long, but I don’t ever have inside info or scouting info so I was packing a lot in here, lol. I’ll be sure to send my scouting report to Harbaugh.)
