I opened an account up here in da U.P. a few years ago (about 90 miles from Laurium), and was greeted by Ms. Gipp. I said “You aren’t by any chance....” and she jumps in “Yep, great Uncle George !” She was originally from LAURIUM, MI., as he was.
Actually, Notre Dame built, and pays to maintain a memorial/Park there to “The Gipper.”
Personally, I think the high point to that little town in their Pasty restaurant, where they have won “Best Pasty in Michigan.” My wife SWEARS by those things !”
