BWI was in meltdown mode right from the opening kickoff. I do agree with them that the targeting call was total BS, and it fuels the conspiracy nuts over there. Anyway, you guys gave them a pounding that they won't forget. Hopefully we'll do the same in a few weeks.

At first when I saw the play I thought it was a bad call. I'll watch it again but if you look closely...the PSU player is going for the ball but then it looks like toward the end of the play he is using his shoulder to go after the helmet.

I don't care one way or the other. If I have to call it BS fine. No skin off my back. UM has gotten favorable calls and on occasion unfavorable calls (remember Rutgers and Darboh?).

Penn State is not what it used to be. Joe started getting out coached beginning with the Ohio State game in 1995. He should have stepped aside after the 1999 season. His stubberness has led to what Penn State is today, including not pushing for a full scale investigation of Sandusky. It will be at least 6-7 years until Penn State becomes a legit challenger in the Big Ten. 2 years until the Franklin experiment ends. Then another 4-5 years for a real coach to come in and rebuild.

Targeting calls will always be controversial when they're not blatant. It's a muddy rule.

Agree that the targeting call was weak. OTOH, PSU's lone touchdown drive was significantly ref-aided as well, what with them getting a favorable spot on 4th down, followed by two iffy pass-interference calls on Michigan.

I agree with you. PSU went from being a big fish in a small pond, to being an average fish in a big pond. Lots of PSU fans don't like to be reminded of that (think BWI), but it's true. Joe's time had passed and he was not willing or able to adapt, and then the Sandusky scandal just added to it. I think your projections are reasonable, if they can get the right folks running the program.

In live action it looked vicious, clearly helmet to helmet. But yeah, that was a ridiculous ejection. And if they're gonna review it, they should be able to reverse the penalty too, which should have happened in this case. That was just as bad as the Joe Bolden ejection against msu last year.

I don't know. From the replay, it looked to me like the kid was much more interested in delivering a blow to the head and shoulders than actually getting to the ball. JMO. And yeah, this used to be called just a tough football play.

From what I saw, it was clear that the defender was reaching for the ball (although he missed it). If he had not been doing so, I would have agreed with the targeting call. But I still think the kid got screwed. Not that it impacted the game, but still...
